Archbishop's palace

Built between 1722 and 1738 by Auguste Malo-Saussard (circa 1690- after 1737) for Frédéric de la Tour d’Auvergne, Prince of Turenne and dean of the Great Cathedral Chapter, this was the first private mansion in Strasbourg constructed in the Paris style, i.e. set between courtyard and garden. Sold as a national asset after the French Revolution, the Hôtel du Grand Doyenné was purchased by Nicolas Lückner, commander of the Rhine Army. It became an episcopal residence in 18551.
