Noble Ladies from Andlau's mansion

This former Strasbourg residence of the Chapter of Noble Ladies from Andlau Abbey was built by Jacques Gallay (1708-1755) in 1749. It is arranged around a courtyard which you enter via a carriage entrance at an oblique angle to the street. The building with a definite Regency influence has a sandstone frontage decorated with classical features. The central avant-corps stands out from the rest with its columns and pilasters, large bay windows and triangular pediment. The sloped roof is tiled as is tradition in these parts. In the early 19th century, this private mansion housed the Academy’s law school1.
